Overview
This 1-day hike to the Humantay Lake is an excellent way to enjoy the Peruvian Andes, if you only have a few days in Cusco to spend. Lake Humantay is a glacier lake surrounded by giant Andes mountains, like the Salkantay Mountain and Humantay Mountain. These tops of the mountains are icy which provide a breathtaking view on the way to the turquoise-colored Humantay Lake.
Humantay is one of the snow-capped mountains in the Vilcabamba mountain range. On hot days, the glaciers are melting and this melt ends into the lake. This makes the color of this lake so amazing, especially when the sun is shining into the lake. The 2 hours uphill hike is challenging, also due to the altitude.
