Colca canyon trekking

3:00-3:30am – We will pick you up from your hotel by private bus and take you to the Colca Canyon. After a 3-hour journey, we’ll stop in the first town of Chivay to eat breakfast. Afterwards, we will continue on to the Cruz del Condor. Here, we will spend 45 minutes enjoying the fabulous flight of the condors and the impressive scale of the canyon. Next, we will continue to the town of Cabanaconde (located at 3287 m.a.s.l.) Here we will begin the hike with descending to the town of San Juan de Chuccho. We will hike for about 3 hours down to the Colca River and cross a suspension bridge. In San Juan, you will end the first day’s hike in San Juan and you will have lunch. Later, we will teach you something about the native fruits in the area as well as medicinal plants. Here we will also eat dinner and spend time in a family’s house. We will spend the night here, ending the first day of the tour.

We’ll eat breakfast at the agreed time, afterwards continuing our journey through the depths of the canyon, visiting the towns of Cosñirhua, Malata and ending the day at the Oasis – Sangalle “Paraiso Las Palmeras Lodge.” Here we will eat lunch and dinner, enjoy the pool and the exotic places such as the paths down to the river and the suspension bridge.

Today is a challenging day, as we have to hike up until the top of the Colca Canyon. You will get up early at 5am to start the climb up to Cabanaconde. Once we reach the top, we will eat breakfast at the assigned restaurant. After breakfast, we will go by bus to Chivay. On the way we will make several stops to observe the terraces made by the Incas and pre-Incas. We will stop at different villages in the Colca and enjoy the hot springs near Chivay. After the hot springs, you will have lunch (not included) and continue on to Arequipa. On the way to Arequipa, we will make two more stops. First at the Andes lookout point and the other at the national reserve of Aguada Blanca. We will be back in Arequipa around 5:30pm.
